Course Description:
Students will learn basic and advanced computer skills while learning the history, function, and operation of several types of computer systems. System maintenance/ repair, along with customer service skills will be stressed, to prepare students for A+ certification, a certification recognized around the world in the computer industry.
Students will also learn how to network computers together and they will prepare to take the Network+ Certification Exam. Students will learn the theory behind how networks function, and will also learn practical networking skills, such as: installation of network cable, designing network systems, and basic configuration of network routers and switches.
It is estimated that there will be a need for 1.6million IT Professionals within the next few years, according to the Information Technology Association of America. The IST Program at Ohio Valley Career & Technical Center (OVCTC) is on the cutting edge of this trend, producing students who have the skills necessary to fill those jobs.
IST students provide the technical support at the eTech conference each year. Pictures will be available soon in a slide show.
IST is also Tech Prep and has articulation agreements with Shawnee and Southern State Universities.

Junior at any Adams County/Ohio Valley School Building or Manchester
2.5GPA
94% Attendance Rate
Computer class(s) at local high school
Passed 10th grade proficiency tests or OGT tests
